Good Ballerina Gone Bad - Dance Photography | Maris Ehlers Photography

We sort of stumbled on to doing photography of high school dancers this spring, and it's really been a lot of fun.

One of our commitments to our clients, however, is that we'll never do the exact same thing twice, especially on location.  So when Maddie, a senior at St. Michael Albertville High School contacted us after seeing some of our other ballerina / dance imagery, nothing but the unexpected would do.

Here are the highlights from that shoot.  Maddie, thanks for being such a trooper in the blazing sun and heat, and thanks for trusting us to create these for you.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE them, but more importantly, we hope you do, too!

9 Reasons Why Como Park is a Great Place for Summer Family Portraits | Maris Ehlers Photography

Casual family portraits are some of my favorites, especially in the summer.  Repeat clients Greg and Kimberly wanted a different look this past summer for their family portrait session versus our last, which had been full of fall color.  We decided to meet at Como Park in St. Paul.  Since we met early on a Saturday, around the time the zoo and conservatory first opens, we avoided the crowds of people that would be milling around later in the day.  Just as it was getting busy, we were wrapping up.

So here are 9 of our favorites from that summer morning session.

This is probably my favorite from the day.

To find out more about booking your summer family portrait session anywhere in the metro, please visit us our  website or contact us via our facebook page.  We look forward to documenting your summer smiles!

Showcasing Style - Senior Pictures | Maris Ehlers Photography

One of the keys to being a successful golfer is being able to perfect a swing and then repeat it over and over again.  Under any conditions, on any course.  I don't PERSONALLY play, but being married to an avid golfer who has worked in the profession for over twenty years, I've learned a few tidbits by osmosis, if nothing else.

Photography is really the same, but yet entirely different.

Photographers need to be able to repeat what they do behind the camera, with functions, lighting and posing, but the difference is variety with different environments and clients.  When a golfer approaches the 1st tee with his game face on, I don't think he's thinking "Let's mix it up today.  Be creative. Try something new.  Do something different."  Nope.  Just like Tiger wears a red shirt every Sunday that he plays, golfers are thinking "Consistency.  Repetition.  Precision."

While every photographer needs to find their style and niche (I think I know my style but honestly not sure about the niche part), the challenge for us to recognize the individuality that each of our clients bring to a session and delivery the consistency, but bring the unique.  Senior photography is no different.  What works for one student just may not work for the other.

Photographing Hannah was delightful, and her sense of style was perfect for a hot summer morning.

What's your favorite?

A special shout out to Hannah's boyfriend, Cosmo, who was a super good sport and helped me out with gear.  Thanks, Cosmo!  :)

MEP Senior Photos In the City (Minneapolis) | Maris Ehlers Photography

Senior portrait season is in full swing.  We are nearly booked for August, but there is still plenty of time to get your session booked and in motion.

Kaelie, one of our senior reps this year, chose a shoot in the city for her second session.  We had a perfect Wednesday evening (ok, it was REALLY hot and humid), but enjoyable nonetheless!

Kaelie's first senior rep session had a country vintage feel.  Funny thing, both of these settings are completely her.

Love Deserves a Second Chance Engagement Pictures | Maris Ehlers Photography

This summer evening engagement session was unique in that not only is this upcoming marriage celebrating bringing two people together, but two families.  Here's a peek:

I love the romantic lighting here.
Something that makes the train work on the tracks.  Yep.  That's what it does.

My assistant for the evening, Katie.
