Saying Goodbye to a Pet With Pictures | Maris Murphy Ehlers

"If there is a heaven, it's certain our animals are to be there. Their lives become so interwoven with our own, it would take more than an archangel to detangle them."
(Pam Brown)

After earning my stripes by photographing a new client's aging dog Triton this last fall, I was invited to their home this winter to photograph Simba, their sweet and beautiful kitty.

Simba has been the king of the jungle at the Zaiger home since he was a baby.  Now, at the age of seventeen, Simba and his "family" have been preparing their goodbyes for the past couple of months.  He's had a long and good life, and has been loved as much as any cat ever has been, but it's never easy to say goodbye to a beloved pet.  Especially one who has been a part of their family for so long.

"His ears were often the first thing to catch my tears."   Elizabeth Barrett Browning
If Simba could talk, imagine the things he could tell about his years in this home, as a part of this family, watching two babies grow up into young adults, being a part of it all...
"In a cat's eye, all things belong to cats." English Proverb

"No amount of time can erase the memory of a good cat, and no amount of masking tape can ever totally remove his fur from your couch." Leo Dworken

"You can keep a dog; but it is the cat who keeps people, because cats find humans useful domestic animals."  George Mikes

Pets ARE children in our families.  They bring unconditional love, are forgiving when we are crabby and really don't expect much beyond food, love and an occasional scratch behind the ears.  In return, they give so much!

When I wrote this post, I wasn't aware that Simba and his family finally said goodbye to each other just a few short days ago. What a hard day that had to be.  April, I hope this post brings a smile to your heart today.

What a beautiful cat! Now you have me thinking that since you do it ALL, you should do my cats!
